Cialis vs Levitra vs Viagra

Does this sound familiar? You have finally decided to take one of the three FDA approved oral drugs to treat erectile dysfunction and you have no idea which of the three drugs you should try – Cialis, Levitra or Viagra.

Well welcome to the club! It is not a clear cut decision.

All three drugs work in the same manner to cause erections, but each drug has its own differences in how it works and how it affects you. These differences are summarized by drug below.

All three drugs should be stored in their original containers in a place that is away from excessive heat and moisture. It is better to store these medications in your bedroom than in a bathroom. Please be sure the drugs are not stored within the reach of children!

Before taking any erectile dysfunction drug, you should discuss it with your doctor. Be sure to let the doctor know if you have had a heart attack, a stroke, life threatening arrhythmia (irregular heart beat), or uncontrollable high or low blood pressure.

Warning: Although there drugs can have occasional minor side effects, which we discuss below, there are some serious side effects that can be caused by all three drugs. These side effects do not occur often, but when they do occur, you should immediately call your doctor or seek emergency treatment:

  • Chest pain
  • Burning or itching urination
  • Fainting
  • Rash
  • Painful erection
  • Erection lasting more than 4 hours

Here is a summary of the differences between the three drugs:

CIALIS

Cialis is manufactured by Lilly Icos and was released during February 2003. It is both the quickest acting and longest lasting of the three drugs. It usually takes 15 minutes to act and can last up to 36 hours.

Cost: Cialis is the most expensive of the three drugs, but all three drugs are priced relatively the same.

Side effects: headaches, upset stomach, muscle and back pain. These symptoms are not common and a doctor should be consulted if they persist for more that 4-8 hours.

Contradictions: Any nitrate based medicine. Angina, Hypertension, Hypotension

The effectiveness of Cialis is not affected by fatty foods.

Levitra

Levitra is manufactured by Bayer and was released during April 2003. It usually takes between 25 to 45 minutes to act and it lasts for up to 6 hours.

Cost: Levitra is the least expensive of the three drugs, but again the difference in pricing of the three drugs in not that significant.

Side effects: headaches and facial flushing. These symptoms are not common and a doctor should be consulted if they persist for more that 4-8 hours

Contradictions: any nitrate based medicine

Levitra’s effectiveness, like Cialis, is not diminished with fatty foods.

Viagra

Viagra is manufactured by Pfizer. It has been around five years longer that the other two drugs, as it was released in March 1998.

Cost: Viagra’s price sits squarely in the middle between the more expensive Cialis and the least expensive Levitra.

Side Effects: headaches, facial flushing, and altered or blurred vision. These symptoms are not common and a doctor should be consulted if they persist for more that 4-8 hours

Contradictions: any nitrate based medicine.

Viagra, unlike the other two drugs, does have its effectiveness diminished with fatty foods.
